Group Values

POD QLD welcomes families using every different communication method - speaking, signing or combining.

Our mission is to strengthen and support each other in raising our children to reach their full potential, whatever and however that may be.

Our group values are read at the beginning of each meeting to help establish a supportive and trusting environment for every participant. They are: -

• We value encouragement, input, feedback and non-judgmental support.

• We are not critical of any communication method or parent choice. We take the view that “what makes the choice work for your child and family is what makes your choice right” (Hands and Voices Motto, 2005).

• All personal information shared within this group is kept confidential.

• We aim to share our experiences in way that respects our differences by using statements like: -
  
  “This is what I believe, but it might be different for you and that’s alright.”
  
  “I can say what happened to us, but remember your situation may be different.”
  
  “I have a bias about this because of my own experiences/background, so you need to take that into consideration…”

• We value our humanness, and accept that we all make mistakes at times.

• We all share the responsibility for making our group work.
